Laura Potratz earned a bachelors degree in organ performance magna cum laude with a minor in studio art at Valparaiso University, Indiana, USA, in 2005. During her studies there she had numerous photographs published in the university's literary magazine. Since then she has exhibited in nature-related art shows at the Eagle Creek Park Foundation in Indianapolis, USA, and as a PONT member at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris. From 2006 to 2009 she studied counterpoint, harmony, early music analysis, and music history at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris while working independently to apply musical composition techniques to photographic composition and otherwise locate the path between the wildernesses of the visual arts and the aural arts. This convergence has also been responsible for her work with pipe organ builders both in France and in the U.S. since 2004, in tuning, construction, and restoration. As a performer, Laura is currently a member of the Bronze Ringers handbell ensemble of the of the American Church in Paris, and serves as assistant to the organist at the French Reformed Church of St. Esprit in Paris. She is working towards a master's degree in music and musicology at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. She travels as often as possible and has been involved for five years with child sponsorship for improving living conditions and opportunities for the young in Swaziland.
